What write clock? The only clock involved is generated in the computer
and used by the FDC chip, so altering the drive won't affect it. At
least, not unless you have a really old 600 rpm Sony drive, but then
you wouldn't have been able to read any data either.
I suspect what's actually happening is that the drive is set for the
wrong density, ie is using the wrong write current. Is this a
high-density-capable drive?
