seconded; I've never had much luck with the proper crimp tools, mainly 
because it's hard to exert enough pressure with them to do a nice job. 
Plus I think the last time I looked they were about 15 pounds each...

watch when you cut the cable too in case little strands of wire short 
out adjacent lines - use a very sharp knife to cut!
