If you are interested in more technical details about how floppies and
controllers work, there's an excellent document called "The Floppy User
Guide" which is available in original PostScript form on the author's
site at www.moria.de/~michael/floppy/ and perhaps more usefully to
many, as a PDF, at www.ipblythe.com/pdfs/floppy.pdf and elsewhere (it's
quite widely respected and cited).
