I am getting 100% success rate from Omnidisk now. It took a while, the
issue was finding 2 drives that were physically similar enough to work
together. As a last resort I was switching the drive between PC and
Beeb, that worked fine but was a bit tedious. I've now found 2 drives
that 'match' each other.
Another possibility, depending on the format of the stuff on the PC,
might be GoMMC:

although it's a bit expensive compared to the price you can pick a
Beeb up for.
