Installing Wine and running BeebEm is probably still your best bet; 
accoring to the (BeebEm) author it works flawlessly. (my experience of 
Wine releases is that they are frequent and often break things that used 
to work in prior versions though! :)

I haven't seen a good BBC emulator that'll run nicely under Unix at 
modern display bit depths (i.e. more than 8 bits) - although I think the 
BeebEm pages have some info about an up-to-date port (I got the 
impression that it's not quite there yet though, and it's Linux-specific 
rather than general Unix too)
