That's not the fundamental problem - the hobbyist and repair
areas were but a small part of the traditional market.

The UK _used_ to have an electronics manufacturing industry
(before we resorted to sticking our badges on factored goods
fron the far east).  Heck, I used to work for UK companies
with factories in the UK making electronic goods/equipment.

Now that we don't manufacture anything any more, there's little
business for the electronics parts suppliers, and they either
give up or cut right back on their range of goods.
