You might end up buying a more expensive camera than you need that way.
The CCD modules used in pocket cameras are often designed for multiple
purposes, e.g. long or very close range in one design.
An EasyPix SX (1.2 Mpx, a Dixons camera sold under the Agfa brand),
partly dismantled and with the lens mostly unscrewed will focus down to
about 6 cm. An A5-sized area of the board can be shot with the IC
lettering legible. It makes an inconvenient camera for leisure, but
it's ideal for still life snaps or product shots.
