Subject: Any tips on unpotting small Beeb board?

I have a small add-on for a Beeb-related accessory - just a couple of
chips potted in a plug. It seems to be faulty so I'd like to unpot it
and try to reproduce its electrical characteristics. The potting
appears to be semi-opaque epoxy with a slight pink/grey tinge. Are
there any tips for getting enough this of stuff off to figure the
underlying circuit? I was wondering whether heat or a particular
chemical etc might help? Anyone made a successful job of unpotting?

-Neil F.
