Hmm, I can't help thinking it should be possible to do something by plugging 
the damaged plug into a DIL socket and then linking the damaged lines directly 
to the DIL socket's corresponding pin sockets (cut the relevant lines just shy 
of the damaged connector and extend them).

That's hardly elegant, though! :)
