Yes, it appears hand-written in block capitals, but it's actually
photo-typeset from a hand-drawn font.  There's very little variation in
the letter shapes and none, practically speaking, in the heights and
baseline alignment.  I agree, an unusual appearance but a good book.

There were a number of followups.  "Illustrating FORTRAN" was the
first, I think.  There were various others for specific dialects of
BASIC, and for Pascal, and one called "Illustrating Computers", in the
same style but no longer entirely in BLOCK CAPITALS.  "Illustrating C"
is the most recent and moderately well-known.
