Subject: Master Compact Welcome Disc
I'm now quite glad I dug this one out. I had a play with it, (though on a
Master 128), and discovered a few other useful bits.
It's got the 'Sprite ROM' image on board, which seems to make up the
difference between the Master 128's graphics and the GXR. *HELP SPRITE
brings up the number of defined sprites and the amount of spare sprite
memory, *HELP GRAPHICS gives prompts for the GXR plot codes. There is also a
'PMFS ROM' image, which I can't get any help for, though a quick *DUMP makes
me think it is a version of the pointer ROM.
I wonder where the sprite editor is, I've still got a keystrip for it,
though I can't find the box which should have the GXR in it. I do remember
using it to display fractals, though it pushed PAGE up, so that I had to
reload the data off disc. I vaguely remember that one could disable the
sprites and flood fill to claim some of the space back.
I think that and the extra RAM were the reason I bought my first Master 128.
I also remember getting my Turbo Co-processor. I tested it against my,
(second hand), 16Mhz Compaq 286, doing the same calculations (no graphics),
in interpreted BASIC. It was a lot faster. This was getting into 'twilight
of the gods' for amateurs doing dynamical system work, and I went off into
other interests.
