Further to last email to the list, I've just unearthed a CU board called a 
"beebex-1" which appears to do exactly the task you mention - it's got a 
34-way trailing ribbon cable + IDC socket, and a backplane board containing 
some control logic and four Eurocard connectors.

Control Universal p/n 10580-2.

Logic ICs on board:

74LS133
74LS173 (*3)
74LS02 (*2)
74LS00
74LS14

plus what looks to be a 74LS05, and a totally unknown 14 pin IC (markings have 
suffered on both of these)
