Subject: Re: B+ 64k won't respond to keyboard, Econet fitted

The no clock message comes about because the machine isn't connected
to an Econet with a valid clock signal being generated. When NFS initialises,
it checks for presence of the 68B54 so it effectively disables itself. Most
machines with DFS 1.20 actually have the DNFS ROM but often this is not
realised if there is no Econet interface because the NFS part of the ROM
doesn't show itself up on *HELP.

In the B+, BASIC and the OS are in the same ROM so if there are only
2 sideways ROMs inside your B+, NFS is the "other" one.

Are you able to connect the machine up to an Econet? If so, you should be
able to REMOTE it from another station which might help you diagnose whether
it is just a keyboard fault or a problem elsewhere. I did this with a BBC B
with Econet which had a similar problem, although in that case the speaker
was generating output all the time as well.

Best wishes,

Ian

Subject: [BBC-Micro] B+ 64k won't respond to keyboard, Econet fitted

I've got a B+ 64k here, issue 1 board, with Econet fitted and no extra
ROMs. It won't respond to keyboard input - flashes the cursor in the
usual way but seems to be waiting for something else.

It started out with the 'no clock' message, and showed no response to
key presses, so I pulled the 68B45 chip. Now it just says Acorn OS
64k, BASIC, with the usual arrow cursor, but still doesn't respond to
key presses (except Break and Control/Break). I've tried a different
keyboard and cable, with the same result.

Sprow's site suggests removing the ANFS or NFS chip but there's
nothing marked like that on this motherboard. Are there likely to be
any link settings that could be causing this problem, or something
else I could try?

Cheers,
-Neil F.
