It's pretty easy to add parity generation to those kinds of adapters
using a little PAL.  I think I've got a 22v10 jedec file lying around
somewhere with the right bits in.  Obviously you don't get any actual
parity checking that way, but it seems to be sufficient to keep newer
drives happy.
