Subject: 101 uses for a speech system (number 35)

On a similar thread to
  <4da8b0781cinfo@...>
and
  <4da82086bainfo@...>
which describe the US dialect speech ROM and a caller id system for your
phone based around the speech system, there's now available an updated
version of "RFSHead" which is my program to generate ROM filing system
format ROMs.

The ROM filing system is supplied as standard since OS 1.00, and is selected
with *ROM.

A little known fact is that the speech PHROM which normally holds speech
data can also be used to hold RFS data, or a mixture of both. This becomes
particularly useful with the speech system if you are short on ROM sockets
on the main board as the speech system always exists in a socket of its own.

An example use might be to hold GoMMC utilities that would normally reside
on disc, or other handy library utilities that would otherwise need lots of
messing about with floppies.

It can be downloaded for free from
  http://www.sprow.co.uk/bbc/bbconly.htm
and details of how to program the resulting ROM into your speech system are
at
  http://www.sprow.co.uk/bbc/speechupgrade.htm
which also now includes some more scanned copies of the original Texas
Instruments datasheets.

Enjoy!
Sprow.
