No, no IP stack required - as far as the client device is concerned it's
talking to a host directly via RS232/432.

Well spotted on the date, and thanks for pointing it out!  I'm in Argentina
at the moment and the kids here get quite excited when they see a G4
PowerBook!  Hence sticky fingerprints, date changes and obscure desktop
backgrounds etc....
