I generally just mail-order components unless I've seen them on the
shelves.

Don't be tempted to buy the stamped pin sockets (BL21X etc.), even
though you might not want to stretch the sockets on the motherboard;
turned pins aren't that big.

The stamped pins are only meant for soldering; they don't offer much
grip in the socket, and when you see-saw one end into the air and push
it back in there's always one pin that bends flat underneath with no
resistance to warn you!
