Yes, it's definitely "Artillery Duel" because it has that in double-height
lettering on the brief mode 7 title screen before it jumps straight into the
game.

You're right it is very basic - the program is about 88 lines of BASIC and
therefore takes quite a while to draw the landscapes at the start of each
duel.

I doubt it's an official commercial release related to the mobygames entry
you've linked - I agree that it's likely to be a magazine type-in ... or,
possibly, part of a collection of low-tech educational games.  It might even
have been a teletext or prestel game, I suppose.

It's so frustrating that the school's econet admins seem to have
deliberately deleted the identifying line 10!

I was just hoping that the screenshot might be enough to jog someone's
memory ...
