Thanks for the advice - it worked.
For the benefit of anyone else with the same problem, or future readers
of the list archive, the modulator has two big solder joints (which I
think support it and provide grounding) and two small joints (I guess
the signal). I resoldered them all and the TV display problem went away.
On the same Electron the power socket was also faulty and the machine
kept rebooting if the lead was touched. So I resoldered the socket onto
the power supply board. Again, problem solved.
