I think probably quite a few Model As were sold in the early days, ie.
1981-1982 when I believe there were problems in supply for the parts
specifically for the Model B, so customers opted for an "immediate" delivery
Model A rather than a 6-9 month wait for a B. I doubt whether many
would survive now, though, probably having been partly or completely
upgraded to a Model B or scrapped altogether.
Best wishes,
Ian

Just a quick question to ponder over how many of you own a BBC Model A? Does
anybody have any idea of how many were sold to the public? I haven't seen
one in the flesh yet in about 10 years of collecting.
I wonder how many are still tucked away in people's lofts or thrown out by
institutions. I suspect that most got upgraded to 32k...
Anybody got any experience of Model A's?
Aaron
