Subject: Re: FileStore E01S/E40S

I'll keep you posted on what happens, this is a very curious problem.

I have tried the FileStore formatter many times, it just completely
ignores the disc. I can generally read other SCSI discs this way but
I can't format them because they don't support 256bps formatting.

I did have the setup working when I first got it, there was quite a lot
of interesting stuff on the hard disc I wanted to have a look at but
before I got round to it, the problem developed.

By the way - I have only got the FileStore formatter & initialiser which
I think I got from 8BS originally but I understand that these utilities
are part of a "dealer test disc" which had other Econet test routines
on and could be used with the Econet Test Box. Does anybody have
a copy of the full test disc?

Best wishes,

Ian

The disc might also be corrupted. I can't remember what the FileSnore
does if it encounters a corrupt or unformatted disc - it might simply
ignore it.

Have you tried running the remote formatter [1] to find out whether it
can see a disc attached to the FileSnore?

Would you post back when you find the solution? I'd be interested to
hear what the problem was.

[1] this is a formatter utility which can be run on a Beeb or Master to
format a FileSnore hard disc over the network. I think there's also an
Arc version. It's needed for the ExxS as the SCSI drives can't be
attached directly to a BBC/Master for formatting, whereas the non-S Exx
discs can.
