Subject: The BeebWiki Needs You!
Last summer samwise suggested that the members of this list and the
8-bit Acorn community needed a Wiki. I agreed, and indeed I thought it
was such a good idea that I took up the challenge of creating the
BeebWiki site, a community site where everybody is welcome to contribute.
BeebWiki lives at:
http://beebwiki.jonripley.com/
Over the last year the BeebWiki has had some ups and downs but the
outlook is positive and there is no danger of the site being taken down.
Thanks are due to all users who have contributed content to the site.
Extra credit goes to Jason Thacker for designing the BeebWiki logo.
The site was recently upgraded to use the latest version of the
MediaWiki software - this allows the community to take advantage of new
features that were added in the time since BeebWiki was created. Image
uploading has been enabled and there is more than 1 GiB of free space
reserved on the host server waiting to be filled with new content -
mostly articles I hope. ;)
The sidebar has been updated to allow easier browsing of the various
categories of information on the Wiki and where appropriate existing
pages on BeebWiki have been updated to take advantage of new features.
But to my point: The BeebWiki needs you, the members of this community
to help it reach its potential.
How can you help - some ideas:
o Join the Wiki if you are not already a member.
o Add new content - anything you like as long as it is related to 8-bit
Acorn computers. The current categories are just guidelines and
there is a lot of scope for a lot more information.
o Improve existing content.
o There are many stubs (incomplete or place-holder articles) that
need to be written, fleshed out, improved or just generally
tweaked.
o Advertise the BeebWiki on your web-site or in newsgroups and forums.
o Tell people about the BeebWiki and encourage them to participate.
A few ideas for new content would include information about:
o Links to and reviews of 8-bit Acorn related web sites.
o History of Acorn computers.
o Emulators for all 8-bit Acorn computers.
o Periodicals, magazines and user groups.
o Software: games, demos, ROMs and applications.
o Hardware, peripherals and add-ons.
o People and companies related to these computers.
o And anything. and every thing else that is related.
The BeebWiki will continue to exist but it needs your help to thrive.
Regards,
Jon
