Subject: Re: Tube File Copying
This is proving to be a real headache!
XFER would have done the trick nicely, as would a little SJ utility
I found on the MDFS called "ADFSCopy" which reported a buffer of
&FF5300 so it knew how to use the co-processor RAM.
Unfortunately another persistent problem is really hampering
this operation!
I am copying the files onto the A5000 running Level 4 FS because
this machine has the only disc big enough to store all the data
and Level 4 is the only file server which can cope with files big
enough to do the job (some of them are more than 16MB).
Every time I get a certain way through the copying, the file
server inexplicably stops responding and I get either a "No
reply" error on the Master, or, if I have set the timeout to the
maximum, a "Data lost" error. Then I access the file server
again and everything is fine as if nothing has happened!
This is version 1.00 of L4, I wonder if anybody has a later version
or whether this version is known to have this problem?
It may be that the file server can't cope with such a huge amount
of data and gets confused, in which case I am going to have
to do the big files in parts so I will be on the look out for a
"partload" utility...
Best wishes,
Ian

Subject: Re: [BBC-Micro] Tube File Copying
I tried Copyfiles yesterday, I can't remember now what the problem
was but I abandoned it for some reason!
At the moment I am using the XFER command in the ADT ROM which
seems to be doing the trick. There is a lot of disc activity on the
file server which suggests to me that it has read a lot of data into
RAM and is gradually copying it across the Econet.
If that doesn't work I will have a look at Copyfiles again.
Best wishes,
Ian

Have you tried CopyFiles from the Master Welcome disc? This is in BASIC
so should be trivial to alter to make the most use of free memory.
