Subject: Re: Tube File Copying

Most of the files are manageable, it's just DATA1 on CommunityN
which is 104MB and DATA2 is 41MB. These are causing the headache
and I did actually copy the rest of the data off CommunityS about
2 years ago without any trouble.

I am trying to keep the use of the Domesday Machine down to
a minimum. Thankfully the hardware I have is about as good as
you could hope for, I haven't had half the problems that many
have had in trying to run Domesday.

The resistor pack in the Master SCSI interface runs hot - and I
mean hot, it will burn your fingers if you touch it and now the
LV-ROM player has developed a very worrying clunking noise
when it's reading.

I have now formulated Plan E - I am going to copy the data onto
the MDFS first and then get it to the A5000 once it's on the
MDFS. The file size limit on the MDFS is 8MB and I have saved a
couple of 8MB files without any errors. Just need a slight
amendment to my code to let me change discs part way through
because all the files won't fit onto a single MDFS partition and
then we'll be away....

Best wishes,

Ian

Backing up a doomsday disc? I can't think of anything else that's going to
be that huge.

I suppose you (or someone else) could write a 32-bit ANFS for the master
and use it with Advanced Level 4 (if anyone had a copy of that - I think
it supported long files), but that's probably a bit too much work.

Cheers

Chris
