Subject: Re: Master Compact Question
It sounds like this Compact was used as an Econet network station
if it is used without the drive box. (Maybe there was a Master
Compact ET??!!) The Compact will happily run off an off-the-shelf
DC power supply if you don't need the disc drive and I have used
mine like this as a network station briefly.
There is an Acorn Application Note on the Tinternet somewhere
(probably BBCDocs) detailing how to make up a lead to connect
a standard 5.25" floppy drive.
The Mega-3 ROM is indeed the Computer Concepts ROM containing
Inter-Word, Inter-Sheet and Inter-Chart, which can be started with
*IWORD, *ISHEET and *ICHART.
Best wishes,
Ian

I think Mega3 is some CC thing with the all the Inter- apps in it.
(Interword, Intersheet and Interchart?) The other ROM is probably the
Master OS/BASIC/ADFS ROM. I can't remember if it also has View etc in it.
It has less than the Master 128's ROM - there's no DFS for a start.

Probably serial port. It wasn't standard on the compact.

It sounds like you don't have the disk drive / PSU / monitor stand bit.
There's a socket on the back of the compact that connects to the disk
drive, so it should just be a matter of connecting a drive to it. Its
not a normal disk drive type socket tho, so you'll need to make a
suitable lead.
The compact always struck me as a strange setup, with the computer bit
in the keyboard, rather than in the "box" bit. Perhaps it just seems
strange now because thats how everyhing is nowadays.
Cheers
