Subject: LV-ROM Repairs (or How *do* *I* repair an LV-ROM player?)
Thought I'd better make the subject line absolutely clear...
Before anyone panics, it hasn't gone kaput after more use in the
last week than it's had in the last 20 years, it's my other one.
When I originally got interested in Domesday I bought two
laserdisc players, the Domesday VP415 and a VP410 which is
the same but without the SCSI/Genlock bit at the bottom. This
was on the basis that the VP415 was faulty and a repair job
could be done with parts from the other one.
The fault is with the drive door mechanism which doesn't work
but I remember that I did get the door to eject if I took the
lid off the player and then pushed the drive tray out manually
from inside just after pressing the Eject button.
I even had two bits of string on either side of the tray so I
could pull it out with the lid back on. I haven't gone into this
for a long while but I do remember that with a disc in, the
machine did make some fairly frightening noises sounding like
the disc was being hacked to pieces so I abandoned the
effort.
Has anybody got any experience of repairing this mechanism
on the Domesday player? What would be the best approach,
to try to fix the door on the VP415 with spares from the other
one or "upgrade" the VP410 by transplanting the SCSI/Genlock
bit from the Domesday one? I don't think this was easily
detachable from what I remember when I looked inside it.
Best wishes,
Ian
