Subject: Re: Assistance with formatting a hard disc, Acorn A3000.

I've just done a picture set on upgrading an A5000 with a
second IDE drive, although it's not coming out on my website
until later this year. I imagine it's much the same with the
A3000.

As far as I know HForm (in App2) will format IDE and ST506 discs.
SCSI discs have their own formatter because they live in a podule.
Hopefully the podule in the A3000 won't make a difference.

I would try HForm first and see if it recognises the drive and
has a go at it (you may need to configure the number of IDE
drives in !Configure).

RISC-OS 3 has a restriction on the maximum disc size of 512MB
so if the drive is bigger you will need to enter the format parameters
manually and pretend it has fewer cylinders to produce a size
no bigger than 512MB.

I did trick the A5000 into accepting a 1600MB disc but that's
another story!

Best wishes,

Ian

Subject: [BBC-Micro] Assistance with formatting a hard disc, Acorn A3000.

Hello!

Can anyone help me (off list of course) with formatting an IDE hard disc,
using a Castle Technologies IDE mini podule in an Acorn A3000 upgraded to
RISCOS 3.11?

Any advice gratefully received.

TIA.

Austin.
