Speaking of "finds", but in a slightly different way: my MDFS is a
veritable gold mine, I'm still finding new stuff on there. Last week
when I was messing about copying the Domesday discs (nearly
finished South side of Community disc today if anybody's still
interested!!) I found an Archimedes version of "Speech" which I
never knew existed!

Best wishes,

Ian

I have to admit I managed to dig out one or two copies of Acorn User (or
some such) a while ago and it was really interesting to read especially the
Watford Electronics advertisements. I always wanted their fancy speech
synthesiser unit but could never afford it at the time (being a schoolboy!).
If I ever see one again I'll be tempted...

Of course I can always make the computer speak profanities by using the
software 'Speech', always a laugh!

Back to BBC finds, I've yet to find anything at a car boot sale that is BBC
related (other than the odd Electron game), plenty of Sinclair kit around
but never a stashed away Model B :(

I'm obviously going to the wrong auctions. I keep peering into the skips at
work to see if there are any BBC items thrown out, most of the time its
knackered PC parts but you never know...

Has anybody ever rescued any from skips?

I can't honestly remember how I found out about it. He was local
and he may have contacted me through the website but it had only
just started at the time. The whole lot filled up the back seat and
the boot of the car and my popularity at home has never recovered!

I think the best thing of all is the full set of Beebugs, these are
really fascinating for an insight into the early history of the Beeb
and all the distribution problems there were. You had to wait about
9 months to get a Beeb back in 1981-82!

Best wishes,

Ian

Ian,

How on earth did you manage to get hold of all that? Was the guy going to
throw it all away?!

Purely out of interest, what's the best Acorn item you've ever bought from a
car boot or private sale?

Mine is probably a 128k B+ with all the receipts and the stickers still on
the case, which was from a guy at work.
