I enquired at the local primary school a few
years ago, when I first moved here, and it seemed
that while they used to have a stockroom full of
stuff, when they got their nice new multimedia
room (smartboard and a pile of PCs) they cleared it all out to make room...
:-(
Since most primary schools seem to run on a
budget shoestring, I suspect that this is
typical, and stockrooms full of disused equipment
don't last long before they get cleared out,
especially when they are looking for space to set up replacements..
I really wish now I'd kept in touch with
daughters' primary school to whom I actually
donated a Beeb+disc drive about 15 years ago, as they were still
using them at the time.
The best time for collecting was probably not
long after that, when PCs started becoming
mainstream, and cheap enough to buy one per kid ..
Now I did get a huge pile of stuff of a bloke who
had rescued it from a local authority Speech and
Language unit when they cleared out their
stockroom.. Pretty standard unexpanded Beebs,
floppy drives and Cubs, apart from a touch
keyboard, cub touch screen and a nifty box for
connecting microphones up to the
beeb. Unfortunately there was no software
whatsoever, which is annoying as it could actually of been useful!
