They are *in* standard ADFS format.

Yes. 800K 'D' and 'E' format ADFS. Half the size of 1600K 'F'
format ADFS.
 
Try using ImgToDisk at http://mdfs.net/Apps/DiskTools to write a
disk image to a floppy, and as mentioned a short time ago on this
list.
