Oh crumbs. I thought the drive was absolutely wrecked so it went in the bin
last night - looks like I'm diving into the bin to retrieve it tonight! I
hope I get back before the dustmen...

I think it was an Opus drive, 40/80 selectable - but whoever had it before
me whacked it several times as the paint had chipped off on the corners. I
won't even mention the Teletext tuner (cracked corners, glued on aerial
socket)...I haven't binned that yet. Oh and the Beeb looked like it had seen
Jack the Ripper with scratches down one side. All in good condition
supposedly, got to love these flea-bay auctions....

If you can't get the disc all the way in (I'm not going to make any
comment on E-Bay, I know we're not allowed to mention E-Bay,
car boot sales, house clearances, ferreting through skips etc. in
case we accidentally brag about something!!) then the chances are
the metal "cap" protecting the drive head has come loose and is
rattling about inside getting in the way.

Best wishes,

Ian

Just out of interest, how many of you suffer with failing disk drives? I've
got another last night as part of an eBay win; powers up etc but something
inside is stuck or broken as I can't get the disk the whole way in! Grrr!

Saying that, judging by the state of the casing and the rest of the kit it's
had a hard life...

Aaron
