Welcome :)

I seem to recall there's a chip in there which is usually responsible for this
fault (TDA1170?? It's been a while). No idea what the availability is like now.

Other distortion problems are likely to be capacitors that have seen better
days.

It's worth checking any 'mechanical' type contacts and cleaning them with some
switch cleaner - e.g. contrast potentiometer, the RGB connection to the rear
of the tube etc.

I see that Sprow's supplied the service manual now :-) It's also worth
looking at:

   http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/monfaq.htm

if you're new to fixing monitors; it includes a lot of the basic
troubleshooting as well as valuable tips on how not to end up dead ;)

www.bbcdocs.com is always worth a look for manuals. 8bs is coming back some
time (when the site maintainers get a free five minutes, I believe :-)

Have a go at fixing them, anyway - and just let the list know if you've really
had enough of them. I suspect that you can find homes for them on here if
needed!

cheers

Jules

p.s. There seems to be something up with your email client and it's not
putting line breaks into messages properly - your message came through as one
paragraph per line...
