Jon, your tops, should have looked at the code a lot more closely than I 
obviously did ! I saw the backwards count and it didn't register (sometimes 
not much does !). It was the basic premise that you sum the bytes that led
me to just presume it was done in a kind of human way rather than the obvious
way for the machine - which is of course to always count down as it's slightly
more efficient.
