But since the BBC was used as an educational computer,
does it mean those were so-called "smart drugs"?

BTW, the issue about yellowing applies to all computers and for
that matter other devices made of light coloured plastic material.
There are a lot of suggested solutions, including polishing or
scrubbing off the outer plastic layer, but none really good one.

Some people just give up, and paint their old computer so it at
least will look like new. The problem here lies in finding the
right type of paint that will stick to the plastic without
chipping off as soon as you touch it. You could go for painting
the Beeb in cream white, or electric blue, or lime green or just
about any colour you desire if you take that route. Owl brown?
