Subject: Have a little courtesy please.
Hi.
As I have just put in another email, the lack of courtesy on this
mailing list is starting to get excessive, and by that I excuse those to
whom this does not apply.
I do not, and never have claimed to know everything. Far from it - some
people on occasion seem to think its my job (thats another story) and
they very quickly find out I do in fact know very little at times. So
when I ask a question on a mailing list, I don't expect to be greeted
with the sort of replies I've been getting, such as emails of the
attitude of "you stupid idiot, let me educate you some" and "If you'd
Googled like any normal human being you'd know this".
I'm sure there are other people out there who have also tried the Google
route and found there choice of search terms has not yielded the
essential information. From there the next port of call is quite
obviously a knowledgeful mailing list.... which then lets the hunter of
information know how pathetic they are by pointing out how to find the
information on Google.
It should also be known that I spent a long time not even paying
attention to this list, as I never had the time to read through
everything. So I wouldn't expect anyone to assume I was aware of
something simply because it had been discussed previously. If you think
of it logically, the fact I'm asking shows I haven't come accross it
previously, and I'm certainly not about to starting searching an
11000-odd email archive every time I want to post just on the off-chance
that its been covered before.
Now I don't want to start a huge discussion/flame war/etc. over this,
just a little courtesy and understanding that I don't know everything
there is to know about BBC Micros, I do occasionally get things wrong,
and I like everyone else am susceptible to marketing that says a Single
Density disk is different to a Double Density one, moreso if I don't
know otherwise.
Thankyou
Richard Gellman
