See my previous post on the matter. Lots of personal experience, plus 
communications with people who earn their living out of doing this sort of 
thing. It'd be interesting to hear what motherboards / chipsets *do* work, I 
suppose.

It goes without saying that this is with programming the FDC chip directly :-) 
 From memory the standard BIOS calls (and OSes like Windows) have no knowledge 
of doing anything exotic like kicking the FDC into FM mode (Linux does, but 
the underlying code is complete spaghetti and there's virtually no documentation)
