Peter.... **thanks**. This is what I'd call *evidence*, in that it gives me
something to go on to find out why people are saying "Most PCs do not do FM
encoding".

I think you may have hit the nail on the head (the credit goes to you).
I'll be back after I've dug some more, but for the moment it looks to me
(*warning* *opinion*!) like it is now a case of an "outdated opinion".
