Subject: Leeches!

Wouter, man. I've also been at the butt-end of people selectively
reading my e-mails and making false accusations... I think we could all
improve the way we communicate on this list. This list looks like it's
dying because of improper use. Perhaps:

- We might want to establish what is the purpose of this list. Is it
just about keeping the memories of the BBC alive? Or keeping the BBC,
its support and progression alive as long as possible?

- We might want to make available established technical information,
that is frequently sought after, on a specialized Web page for
one-click access; instead of people having to trawl around the
archives.

- Any sort of technical or non-technical claim, ensure it's backed up
by facts. At least state how accurate your claim might be, to save
people wasting time reading unreliable information.

- Anything small/big technical solution that benefits a member
privately, might benefit a few others on the list. Please consider
this when you answer someone who wants for instance, a decent disk
sector editor/fixer. If the solution isn't known or available, please
don't be afraid to say this. But address it anyhow, don't ignore the
requester.

- Please be as brief and concise with your information as possible and
don't bloat. Members on the list have time commitments.

- Anything off-topic, please declare it so. Ideally, keep it private.

- Be patient with newbies, remember each member of the list is human
and prone to error or forgetfulness.

If the above seven simple guidelines are stuck to, this mailing list
would be fully functioning once again with hopefully growing members.
It will stop this mailing list from dying. Hey, we might want to link
this up permenant somewhere; or refer to it from the archives every
time someone need to access it.

Fiaz.
