Seen one on a Beeb that had been kept in the head office of a
not-so-well known brand, as a character generator and PROM blower (via
a big tin box full of discrete components that were re-seated on every
use as there was a dry joint *somewhere*). When you brought your
finger close enough some static discharge would crackle - and keep
crackling.

So they were around, and it was definitely a higher-spec model and not
just a second-source tube. No information about the price, but what do
you think! ;-)
