I did the same to my Atari 800xl except it did break but fortunately not in
the warranty period.

Okay, I have to confess that in 1985, just 1 week after I got my first
computer, I painted the case of my model B white, because I couldn't stand
the s**tty yellow.
So I ruined my warranty & told the beeb not to break down, ever!
It took my word, and it is still running at this moment.
