I'd say its 50-50 the telly thats a bit out of alignment - either twiddle
the vertical hold knob if available or if not try another telly!

I'm afraid I'm away from my manuals at the moment but he may need to issue
some *TV commands to get it to hold I had an old Sony that wouldn't sync
on a beeb without a bit of *TV fiddling....
