That may be so with a new battery but the specs for the CMOS don't 
guarantee data retention under something like 2V, AFAIR.  The original 
battery was a single 3V AA-size lithium cell -- like an AA version of 
the button cells used in small devices -- and I suspect someone has just 
changed the cell.  The official Acorn replacement had two or three 
alkaline cells in one of two styles of holder, and was a free 
replacement when the lithium cells were recalled.
