The HDFS had a tape drive too. From memory it took DC600A tapes.

You have the FDFS and the HDFS the wrong way around, the HDFS came out
before the FDFS. The FDFS an attempt to make a cheaper server than the
HDFS, which cost a small fortune.

The MDFS was a cheaper / newer version of the HDFS, using new technology
such as SCSI. It also was a lot ligher than the HDFS :)

I don't think the HDFS ever had the econet "millenium bug" fixed, but I
don't think any were still in use in 1996. I used to have one once upon
a time.
