Does your network go outdoors anywhere? If it is entirely in one
or two rooms in a single house, then transient suppressors are not
really necessary.
 
My Econet runs between two downstairs rooms and the basement,
probably not longer than 15m or so long.

There's currently eight machines on my network. If I could stop
all my horizontal surfaces getting buried I'd be able to plug in a
few more.
