I was originally wondering if it was possible to make a simple
parallel-to-DIN cable and emulate the whole thing in software, like
the X1541 cable series for the C64. Though as I said, I don't know
enough about the hardware, timings etc. to know if this is even
possible - I'm guessing then that it's not.
I'd forgotten about the Ethernet-to-Econet thing, I've only heard
about it a couple of times before. It sounds very interesting,
especially in conjunction with BeebEm (which is a superb program).
I'd love something like the setup I've got with the C64 where I
effectively have a huge (albeit slow) fileserver that allows me to
directly load things I've downloaded from the internet. Also a little
bit like the way I've got my Linux box talking Appletalk, so I can
connect to fileshares with old Macs. If I bothered to set up an
intermediate Mac running the Localtalk Bridge, I could have even older
Macs (such as my pair of Pluses) running stuff directly off the Linux
box.
