You mentioned Acornsoft games. I believe the rights for the text
adventures were snapped up by Topologika [www.topologika.com] who went
on to release extended disk versions of several of them. Eventually,
they dropped the adventure arm of their catalogue and the rights
reverted to the original authors.
Superior Software [www.superiorsoftware.co.uk] also bought the rights
to a lot, if not the majority, of Acornsoft's best-selling games and
continue to sell them in tape and disk compilation form, to this day.
Buying a few compilations from the latter should cover you, for a few
demo games. Someone posted scans of a recent catalogue over on the
Stairway To Hell forums, a while back:
