Actually, on this note, my "hybrid" MODE 7 simply hard-wires the Nr register 
to 9 rather than 18 for interlace mode (Intr=&93) and Nvsp=&1B instead of &1C...

...so I'm thinking I can simply patch the MODE 7 6845 register table in ROM 
and have a somewhat functional MODE 7 display co-existing with MODES 0-6... yes?
