Well.. Strictly speaking, yes.

If it was a BIG 9V battery, i.e. could deliver enough current for a
meaningful amount of time.

So not a PP3.

And you would need to regulate down to 5V for the logic, and convert up
to 12V for the motors.

..So not a really sensible proposition, but please don't let that stop you.

Personally I think the time/effort would be better spent building a
liquid nitrogen cooled AMD Phenom second processor for the beeb. :-D

Everyones mileage varies.
