According to Jim Butterfield in September 1983, the 6512-6515 are identical 
to 6502-6505 except that they need (?) an external clock circuitry.

The 6510 on the other hand has its own built-in clock generator just like a 
6502, plus the 6-8 bit I/O port which allows the C64 to have ROM on top of 
RAM.

I didn't quite find any datasheets for 6512, but perhaps I didn't look close 
enough. I just wanted to point out that the page you quoted seems to contain 
a big typo, which voids the whole idea. Actually it is amusing to see how 
many people have misconceptions about the 6510, given how well-documented 
the C64 is.
