(Off topic warning: not directly BBC related)

A quick Google search reveals that the Merlin Tonto was a rebranded
ICL One-Per-Desk. This was based on the QL, but included a phone and
various inbuilt software relating to the phone. I don't think the
software was directly QL-compatible, for example it still used a pair
of Microdrives but the format was different.
